Washita County 4-H attends camp

Washita County 4-H had twenty campers, five counselors, and three sponsors that participated in the Multi-County 4-H Camp at Quartz Mountain State Park May 31st-June 2nd. Participants enjoyed attending educational workshops and other activities such as swimming and the fun park.

Brance Barnett, Washita County Teen Leader and West District Representative on the State 4-H Leadership Council conducted a leathercraft workshop for all 120 participants. Alexander Misener, Washita County Teen Leader, assisted Brance. Each participant made and painted two leather feathers. One of their feathers will be sent to Columbus, Ohio to be included in a National Art Display for Suicide Prevention Month in October. Unfortunately, the West District has the highest incidence of youth suicides in the nation.

Washita County’s outstanding female camper was Sara Misener and the outstanding male camper was Bryce Jellison. The outstanding male counselor for the camp was Brance Barnett.

Campers included Abagail Schneberger, Abigail Sirmon, Addision McKee, Axel Claunch, Bentlee Lester, Braxton Barnett, Brett Sturgeon, Bryce Jellison, Cambree Moore, Dawson Walker, Denton Cook, Grace Rose, Hadley Russ, Kopen Moles, Lylianne Smith, Maddux Funkhouser, Madilynn Davidson, Noah Burris, Paul Misener and Sara Misener.

Counselor included Alexander Misener, Aubrey Sturgeon, Brance Barnett, Delaniee Moore and Gunther Claunch.

Sponsors included Phyllis Boothe, Glen Calvert and Kristy Spalding.
